Some of our customers now have Koi growing on with
Masayuki, but when it comes to Azukari Koi for him
they have to be very high / show quality for him to
keep, mainly because of the lack of room to grow many
customers Koi on. It will be interesting to watch as our
customers have Koi being kept in his mud ponds and
also his indoor ponds, so we can watch their
                             development.
SEKIGUCHI Now his Koi are extremely popular and sought after,
they continue to win prizes around the world at Koi
ARE NOW shows and last year at the All Japan Koi Show held in
February his Showa’s took top prizes in the 50cm
ONE OF Miyabi and 30cm Kokugyo groups.
THE MOST I always ask every breeder I interview to give a piece of
advice to Koi hobbyists from around the world and
FAMOUS AND Masayuki explained, “When looking at a Showa to buy
BEST SHOWA look at the Kage and not so much the Sumi, to see how
it will develop. With Kage it will change, this change will
BREEDERS IN happen depending on the way it is kept and also the
environment it is in. In my mind it is important and a
ALL JAPAN hobbyist has as much enjoyment to watch the Koi
develop, and not just to buy a finished Showa. Make
sure when you look at the Kage or Sumi that the
balance of the pattern is good, then with the Beni (Hi)
make sure it is not too much otherwise it will over
develop as it grows.” Great advice and as you can tell
from this Masayuki likes Kage Showa the most.
Masayuki is married and has three sons now 9, 7 and 6
he hopes that like he and his brothers at least two will
go into the Koi business but time will tell. Regretfully his
father Kazuo passed away in 2015 but saw his son take
the family business to new heights and from their early
and humble beginnings must of been so proud to see
how the Sekiguchi family Koi business is now looked
upon as one of the most famous and best Showa
                             breeders in all Japan.
