Stephen and Anthony Grey.
Kyoto – Part Three
Stephen and Anthony have been keeping Koi since
2003 and have been visiting Japan since 2006, more
recently visiting southern Japan. As well as visiting
Koi breeders and their farms they enjoy the adventure
of travelling around and exploring the sites Japan has
to offer.
This is Kyoto – Part Three, our fourth instalment of our
series of articles ‘Our Travels in Japan’ – if you have
Stephen and Anthony Grey.
not already done so please read our first article in
issue 27 and Kyoto – Part One and Part Two in issues
28 & 29. Here is a brief recap about Kyoto…
Kyoto is a fantastic city, as mentioned in our last article
there is so much to see – and being only 1 hour 15
minutes train journey from Kansai International Airport
is usually our first stop on our travel itinerary. We
normally spend a few days here depending on our
itinerary before moving on to our other destinations
in Japan.
Throughout our articles we will be sharing our
experiences, but also add some facts and history. So
on that note, Kyoto served as Japan’s capital and the
emperor’s residence from 794 until 1868 and is one of
Japan’s ten largest cities. It is just steeped in history
and is famous for its many classical Buddhist temples,
gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto Shrines, and
traditional wooden houses. Kyoto not only has one
UNESCO World Heritage Site like most cities but has
17!! Meaning it has one of the largest collections of
World Heritage Sites in the world, hence why there is
plenty to see and do!
The Tahoto Pagoda on
the hillside of Eikando We just love visiting Kyoto and have been fortunate to
with its stunning grounds,
especially with the have visited many of these wonderful sites. For us it is
autumn colours. really enjoyable walking amongst the traditional streets,
