Gary bowled a large Showa and a Sanke just to show
us, he said he really bought them for himself. Both Koi
were around 70cm. The Showa had Jet Black Sumi with
well defined Motoguro, the Beni contrasting with a bright
white skin, but there was something special about the
Sanke. The Beni pattern was nicely placed and the Sumi
was in the right places under the white skin. I think Gary
would like to keep it for himself and watch it develop.
MARTIN I didn’t intend to buy anything but Gary had a few small
25cm Takigawa Sanke, I had two in the bowl but one
TOOK A particularly caught my eye, again a formal horse shoe
head pattern, Beni and Sumi in all the right places, and
PHOTO OF Sumi on the shoulder under the skin, you know, just one
US ALL ON of those Koi you can’t resist, needless to say it was
bagged and boxed ready to take home.
HIS PHONE
I said to Gary, “I’ll write an article about Gatwick Koi”,
and we all posed for a photo around a vat with some
very nice Koi in it. Martin took a photo of us on his
phone which he sent to me later on WhatsApp, it
showed us all standing around a vat, but you couldn’t
see anything in it as it had been shot at the wrong angle
and you could only see the side of the vat! Martin is tops
at driving a 44 ton, twelve wheeler, Asda lorry, but he’s
not the best photographer! I decided I would hold back
the article and visit Gatwick Koi again and take some
more photos.
Still it was a great day out, we all enjoyed meeting and
chatting about Koi, Gary said he enjoyed it too. He is a
Koi keeper at heart and buys Koi he likes and when you
visit Gatwick Koi there is no pressure to buy.
I visited Gatwick Koi again in mid-August with Kelvin and
Martin, to take more photos in the shop. On our arrival
Sue handed us a welcome hot cup of tea but it wasn’t
long before Martin had spotted a Shintaro Kohaku Tosai,
then, while we were photographing, Martin was looking
at a male Shintaro Sanke, about 50cm on Gary’s
Photograph courtesy of
Martin Devonport. computer. Needless to say Martin bought them both!
I hadn’t intended to purchase anything but I spotted the
other Takigawa Sanke I had in the bowl in May, and after
a little push from Martin, I purchased it. I’ve really got to
stop going out with Martin, he’s a bad influence. Still, it
was another great day out and well worth the visit.
