THE BELGIAN
KOI SHOW 2018
The 2018 Belgian Koi Show took place
over the weekend of the 23rd - 24th June
where 486 fish competed for the prizes.
Unfortunately we don’t have a report from this year’s
Show, however we do have a report from the 2016
Show by Christine Woolger that tells you how to get
there and what to expect when you are there.
AFTER KLAN
There has been a Belgian Chapter of ZNA off and on for
INTERKOI many years and under several names. The current
Belgian Chapter known as the Belgian Koi Society
ANOTHER BIG morphed from a club called Koi @ Home and their first
WIN IN Show was at the Japanese Tuin (Japanese Garden) in
Hasselt back in 2007. This Show, their 10th, is a
BELGIUM welcome return to that original venue. (Making 2018
their 12th.)
Travelling to Hasselt is relatively easy, a drive to
Folkestone where you catch Le Shuttle to Coquelles,
Calais, from here you take a motorway drive to Hasselt,
the journey is approximately 200 miles.
The Japanese Tuin is a 2.5 hectare site and as such is
the largest Japanese garden in Europe. Hasselt is
twinned with Itami in the Hyogo prefecture and the
garden was built in honour of that association by
Japanese professionals. The association with Japan
alone would be a good enough reason to hold a Koi
show at this venue, but the subtle beauty and the
authenticity of the gardens makes it a no brainer.
Show Ground
The Show site was one of several large clearings within
the arboretum which are part of the venue. The Belgian
Koi Society (BKS) made maximum use of the available
