KOI CLUB NEWS
South East Koi Club
Mark Davis of Cuttlebrook Koi Farm gave us a
detailed insight on both common and complex health
issues at our November meeting.
Sunday 25th November saw an excellent turnout for the
South East Koi Club’s monthly meeting at Chelsfield
Community Hall, as our eagerly awaited guest speaker
was Mark Davis from Cuttlebrook Koi Farm. It’s widely
known that Mark knows his stuff and with proven results
on the farm and at show, his knowledge when offered
freely, is well worth listening to. Having spoken to us on
numerous occasions, we could have been forgiven for
expecting the same/similar talk that we have had before,
but we would have been greatly mistaken.
We were given a fantastic and detailed insight on both
common and complex health issues arising from
parasitic infestation or bacterial colonisation and Mark’s
recommendations on the treatments and effective
concentrations he has found most effective at
Cuttlebrook. Mark also went on to cover correct pond
design, where the flow of the return is pivotal and how
we can incorporate an ‘Airlift’ system to improve the
efficiency of our ponds; the pros and cons of various
filtration methods, the need for excellent maintenance
regimes, good observation and so much more. All in
attendance left with a far greater understanding than they
arrived with, even the most experienced Koi Keepers
took something away, even if it was something they had
not previously considered or discounted.
We would like to thank Mark for not only making the
journey to us, but for taking the time to prepare and
share his excellent presentation. I would urge all Clubs to
try and book Mark for a talk and when the weather
permits, to attend Cuttlebrook at either one of their big
Club Days or by appointment.
